Described by many as one of the most biologically diverse areas in the world, southwestern Costa Rica has plenty of beautiful beaches and fantastic vistas. Located in the southern Puntarenas province roughly 16 km south of Dominical, a surfing hotspot, Uvita is situated near the Marino Ballena National Park. This marine park is very popular because between the months of December and April Humpback, whales migrate here to the warm waters off the coast to mate before returning up north. Uvita has many other beautiful beaches most of them are perfect for beginner surfers. They are also less crowded then Dominical’s beaches. Rancho DiAndrew is situated 16 km from Dominical and 6 km from Uvita, 4 km up the mountain road from the main highway that runs between these two towns.
The easiest way to get to Uvita is to fly in to the Juan Santamaria International Airport near San Jose, and then catch a shuttle bus EASY RIDE http://www.easyridecr.com to Uvita (55 US$ one way) The bus, which leaves the airport twice a day at 9 AM and 3 PM needs to be reserved in advance. Reserve your seat by e-mail or make a phone call to Easy Ride 24/7 number. The bus will pick you up right from the airport and take you to the Tourist Office in Uvita (roughly 3 hour ride). Rancho DiAndrew can meet you there and arrange for you a car rental which will give you the freedom to move around and explore the area (our advice is to rent a car in advance, especially in the busy season) If you decide to rent a car in San Jose and drive to Uvita, the new highway 27 will lead you to the coastal highway 34, which will take you to Uvita. Be sure to rent GPS with your rental car because there are hardly any road signs and directions on the roads of Costa Rica.
